If you don't know this already, there is a Hell of a lot of great short story writing over at the Flash Fiction Offensive. Big prop's to editor Dave Barber, who somehow juggles work, family, and his own writing, to find the time time for FFO. Today, I read 4 in a row. Each one is a good read, unique in style, and take place in different countries or geographic locations. Can't ask for much more than that.
Paul Brazil starts things started, delivering the goods as the FFO's monthly Guest Writer spot. He makes the most of the extended word count with SNAPSHOTS.
Paul Salvette did an excellent job taking me to the sleazy streets of Bankok with his tale RAID ON SOI 5
Nathaniel Tower gets my vote for most original theme with BREAST AND PICKUPS
Ryan Jackson cranks up the action in the inner city project's with 12 GAUGE RAGE
Thanks for the story pointers. I've now read them all - and they were worth reading.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the mention!
ReplyDeletePaul W-Yeah, I had been behind in my blog reading and read all 4 in row and liked them all. That is always a good thing.
ReplyDeletePaul B- The pleasure is all mine! Going to stick with microwave bacon from now on ;0
I'll check out the stories. I do love the cartoon. You're a crime thriller writer, right?
ReplyDeleteClarissa-I also liked the cartoon and yes, I really love the crime / thriller genres and try to write those types of stories. Hope all is well with you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder to get caught up over there. It's a bit on the dark side for the likes of me, but the writing makes it worth it.
ReplyDeleteSeana- Oh yeah, some of the stories can be a bit over the top, for sure. I love the diversity that FFO, TKnC and other such sites offer and it is a good wat to discover new writers too and make some new friends.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's amazing how strong the field is out there.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Hard to believe it has been about 1.5 years since I discovered Adrian & Declan's blogs. I think they, Peter R, and yourself were my very first blog friends. What a great ride it has been. So many awsome people and so much learned and accomplished since that time. Really looking forward to the rest of the year because all the blogs seem to pick up steam after the Summer.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think it's hard to keep up with the blog world in summer. Only works for me because I'm pretty much locked in to my day job for most of that time.
ReplyDeleteI'm in very good company if you count me among those blog friends.
Thanks for the mag shoutout, buddy. I'm glad people are enjoying the stories. Quite a few are debutantes and I'm more than chuffed for them.
ReplyDeleteCheers, buddy!
Dave- I'm with you on the debut authors, and I try to make mention of any new author's I find on the web, who write a good story. Blogs are as much about meeting and finding new writers as they area about the self-promo aspect of them.
